Awards Program

Since rebranding and restructuring our awards program in 2018-2019, MWSRA now recognizes four types of awards: first-year achievement, length of service, meritorious service, and our virtual “Hall of Fame”. Each award is explained below:

Top 10 First-Year Referees:

This is a merit-based award presented to up to 10 stand out first-year referees each year, assessed by number of MWSRA games officiated, participation in NRDP clinics/mentor activities, and other feedback received from leagues, assignors, and mentors.

Length of Service Awards:

Based on years working games for MWSRA, we recognize referees with 5, 10, 20, and 30 years of experience.

Kobren-Greenwood Award for Meritorious Service:

In honor of both MWSRA founder and president, Nelson Kobren, and long-time dedicated referee and volunteer, Michael Greenwood – for both a legacy created and a legacy sustained, MWSRA will award no more than one, if any, award per year to a member who has demonstrated exceptional service to MWSRA through leadership, community support, exceptional length of service, or other purposes deemed worthy.

Hall of Fame

After 30 years of service, MWSRA referees are eligible to be inducted into our virtual “Hall of Fame”. But this is about more than just years dedicated to officiating – rather the Hall of Fame truly honors referees who have volunteered above and beyond to advance our referees and MWSRA as an organization overall. This includes, but is not limited to, leadership in MWSRA, mentoring, instruction, assigning, and client service. Visit MWSRA’s Hall of Fame here.
